Ava DuVernay, born August 24, 1972, raised within Long Beach California. DuVernay was raised by her aunt Denise she urged DuVernay to become creative and attracted by the arts. DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles after graduating, where she received degrees in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay started producing to broadcast journalism while she was still in the college. She started as an intern at CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned the responsibility of looking over the house and examining the waste of one of members of the juries. Her disappointment was evident in her journalistic duties and decided to change to the field of public relations. DuVernay was brought in right from college to be a junior publicist at an unassuming studio. In 1999, she established her own firm of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency. The agency has launched a wide range different lifestyle and promotional networks such as Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
